This study aims to determine the effect of group discussion learning methods on students' learning interest in Pancasila and Civic Education (PPKn) in class VIII-3 of SMP Negeri 5 Padangsidimpuan in the 2025-2026 academic year. The problem addressed is the low learning interest of students caused by PPKn instruction that still relies on lecture-based and conventional methods, making students less active and less enthusiastic. This study used a quantitative correlational approach. The population consisted of 247 eighth-grade students spread across eight classes, with a sample of 32 students from class VIII-3 selected through cluster sampling. Data were collected using a questionnaire with three answer options (Yes, Sometimes, No) for the group discussion learning method variable (X) and the learning interest variable (Y), then analyzed using the product moment correlation technique. The results show an average score of 40 for the group discussion method and 35.65 for learning interest, with a correlation coefficient (r-count) of 0.158, categorized as very low. This value is greater than r-table, so the alternative hypothesis (Ha) is accepted. The study concludes that there is a positive but very low effect of group discussion learning methods on students' learning interest, indicating the need to optimize the implementation of group discussion methods to more effectively increase interest in learning PPKn.
